Columbus Office, Cleveland Office | Partner, Insurance Practice Group Manager
Steven Strang has a broad litigation practice and defends individuals and corporations in contractual disputes, premises liability actions, and personal injury claims. He has a decade of litigation experience and has tried cases to verdict as first chair in courts throughout Ohio.
He is the firm’s Insurance Practice Group Manager. He is certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as an Insurance Coverage Law Specialist. He counsels insurers on coverage questions, pre-litigation issues, and has served as lead counsel defending insurance carriers against claims alleging bad faith, unfair claims practices, and breach of contract. Steven devotes a significant portion of his time to emerging areas such as cyber risk and coverage.
Steven defends municipal entities and employees against state and federal claims. He has represented school boards, fire departments and firefighters, police departments and officers, first responders, city council members, and law directors on a variety of issues such as public records requests, the open meetings act, contractual disputes, and 42 U.S.C. §1983 claims based on the First Amendment, the Takings Clause, Due Process violations, and Fourth Amendment issues such as wrongful seizure and use of force. He also has experience drafting and defending municipal ordinances. Steven regularly defends municipal clients in the Northern District of Ohio and Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and has successfully asserted political subdivision immunity in several Ohio appellate districts. He is a frequent speaker on municipal issues, a former Chair of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association Government Attorney Section, and was named a Super Lawyers Rising Star in Municipal Law. He knows that representing municipal clients in high-profile cases involves not just defending the legal claims, but navigating the media and public opinion.
Steven is also active in the Professional Liability Group defending lawyers against malpractice claims as well as insurance brokers and agents, realtors, title examiners, and other professionals in suits alleging breach of the standard of care.Download Full Bio>
