On Saturday, May 22, we celebrate National Maritime Day, a day to celebrate and commemorate the men and women who serve in the United States maritime industry. This industry is a vital piece of America’s transportation infrastructure. Our firm is proud to work alongside maritime operators on the Great Lakes and beyond, and want to thank them all for their selflessness in their part of keeping American commerce afloat during the trying times of a global pandemic.

We also celebrate the beginning of National Safe Boating Week, remembering always that safety on the water is key to an enjoyable boating season.

To help promote these holidays, our firm was pleased to have Partner Markus Apelis join a local NBC affiliate (Channel 3 News) to discuss the upcoming maritime celebrations, maritime law, and the firm’s admiralty and maritime practice.

Markus maintains a diverse commercial transportation practice focused on the maritime and rail industries. In the marine industry, he represents vessel owners and operators in serious marine casualties, including crew injury or death, collisions, allisions, groundings, and fires. Markus also represents shippers, charterers, logistics providers, and others in cargo claims and contractual disputes, as well as marine facilities against property damage and personal injury claims. Markus’ admiralty and maritime practice extends to personal injury or property damage matters arising out the use of recreational vessels and personal watercraft.
