On July 21, 2025, Ohio became one of the first states in the nation to allow employers to post notices of some labor laws requirements on the internet. Specifically, the new law applies to the following notices that employers are required to provide to their employees and contractors:
- Ohio’s Minor Labor Law
- Ohio’s Minimum Fair Wage Standards Law
- Ohio’s Civil Rights Law
- Ohio’s Prevailing Wage Law
- Ohio’s Workers’ Compensation Law
- Ohio’s Public Employment Risk Reduction Program Law
Under former law, an employer’s only option for posting these notices was to place them in plain view in a conspicuous location such as a breakroom or cafeteria. Employers can still physically post these notices. However, the new law provides the option to comply with the notice requirements by posting them on the internet in a manner that is accessible to all employees. The law acknowledges the changing landscape of the contemporary workplace where many employees work remotely and do not physically report to a job site.
Employers who take advantage of the new law should be aware that it does not relieve them of the obligation to physically post all required notices – just the ones listed above. For instance, employers must still physically post notices required under federal law.
Employers looking to take advantage of the new law should post these notices on a central website that is available to all employees. Best practice would be to send an e-mail to all employees letting them know where they can find the notices.
